Brand Identity

Successful companies spend a lot of energy and money creating a positive brand identity for themselves. This takes a lot of good marketing and plenty of time. It’s not just a matter of saying, “We’re the best”; people need proof.

One part of this branding process is logo development. Strong logo design can be an exhausting process, and it takes more than a fancy font and a few pretty shapes with Photoshop bevels and shadows applied. A good logo will stand out front and represent the identity you’ve worked hard to develop for your business.

I like seeing where businesses go with their logo designs, and what their motivations are behind the graphics. A site called “BrandNew” tracks company logo redesigns, and - when possible - provides the brief directly from the designers outlining the reasoning for the aesthetic overhaul. It’s interesting to see the trends that have developed in logo design, especially when it comes to big names like Walmart or BestBuy.
